Why 1-2-1 Coaching?


1-2-1 Coaching is a method that has been adopted from around the world, this method has consistently being changed to suit each sport that it has been implemented into.


So why should we do it? Well here are some reasons; 


  • Allows for more contact time with a professional coach.
  • Increases physical activity levels and in turn develops physical attributes. 
  • Increases practice time of technical aspects of the chosen sport.
  • Increases productivity and allows less room for procrastination (Losch et al, 2016). 
  • Helps participants not only to create new goals but to attain and achieve their goals also (Losch et al, 2016). 
  • Increases motivation and engagement due to specific 1-2-1 attention. 
  • Helps develop focus and confidence for any setting. 



Why are these factors important?


Firstly, there is always going to be improvement within sport and physical activity when it comes to training and practices. This because the individual is spending more and more time developing their skills, with each practice they are finding new ways to improve that certain skill. Our brain muscles breaks down the skills into sections and remembers each of those sections which then sends the message to our muscles for us to complete the movement or skill in hand.

This is why it is even better to allow for more contact time with a professional coach. If our brain remembers and the technique we apply is incorrect, then the practice an individual may implement could become a bad habit! Eliminate bad habits by learning correct techniques with professional sports coaches. 


Gladwell (2008) stated that it could take 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert at something by adding 1-2-1's to your weekly training schedule you are increasing that pracitce time and improving the areas needed for your chosen sport. Working 1-2-1 with a coach means that their is nowhere to hide, group sessions are great but at times it is easy to let your focus slip away. The more focus we have, the more we learn, not only about the skills but ourselves. This is a great way to set goals for us to achieve. Goal setting is a fantastic way for us to learn and strive to be better, Weisberg (2013) found that setting goals has a strong correlation to enhancing performance and increasing motivation. 


1-2-1's are a fantastic way to become a better peformer,  develop new skills both physically and socially and finally to help climb the ladder towards being a succesful sports performer.
